2018 Art season
31 MARCH - 04 NOVEMBER 2018
2018 is an altogether special anniversary year for the Domain of Chaumont-sur-Loire, since the very first “Art season” was held back in 2008.
Chaumont-sur-Loire is therefore celebrating “10 years of art”, during which time there have been more than 75 art commissions and invitations extended to prominent established or emerging artists from all over the world.
It is only natural that new visual artists are also taking part, lending their own creative interpretation to the spirit reigning at the Domain. And, especially for this anniversary, some artists who have particularly stood out over these past ten years have returned to create new exhibits.
No fewer than 15 commissions or exhibitions are representing this special year for the Chaumont-sur-Loire Centre for Arts and Nature.
In 2018 we welcome back the acclaimed American artist Sheila Hicks for a new installation in the Château’s apartments. Fiona Hall, who designed the Australian pavilion at the 2015 Venice Biennale, is also attending, with a work of art extolling the necessary harmony between peoples, following the example set by bees.
Back among us: Nils-Udo, with an extraordinary “nest”, Eva Jospin, with a phantasmagorical cave, Fujiko Nakaya, with a dream-like fog sculpture, Klaus Pinter, with an almost cosmic sphere and Anne and Patrick Poirier, with “archivistic” works. They are joined by Sarkis, who presents us with an original poetic intervention on a piece of furniture that has suffered at the hands of time.
New guest artists featuring in 2018 include Tanabe Chikuunsai IV from Japan, with a spectacular bamboo sculpture, Duy Ahn Nhan Duc from Vietnam, conjuror of gossamer-like plant installations, Nathalie Nery from Brazil, designer of utterly unique botanical assemblages, and Simone Pheulpin, creator of immaculate fabric sculptures reminiscent of forms found in nature.
Alongside the showcasing of many permanent exhibits at the Domain, special tribute is paid to the recently deceased painter, Jacques Truphémus.
2018 is therefore an anniversary year with a whole host of artistic thrills and discoveries in store.
