25. Le jardin sec
published at 18/07/2023
A dry garden designed by landscaper Bernard Chapuis and the Domain of Chaumont-sur-Loire’s teams of gardeners has been laid out behind the greenhouse serving as the setting for Italian creator Maurizio Galante’s “Canapé Cactus” sofa. Tiered like an amphitheatre, it reuses cacti from previous editions of the International Garden Festival. Standing upright or curled up on the ground, they come in every shape and colour: spurges, prickly pears and sea-urchin cacti thrive on a carpet of succulents. Resistant to heat and lack of water, cacti are an outstanding example of resilience. In order to cope with long periods of drought, their tissues can store reserves of sap, an essential nutritive organic liquid.
