Importante artista de la escena mundial que se inscribe bajo la influencia del Land Art, el artista británico Andy Goldsworthy explora desde finales años setenta numerosos parajes naturales y paisajes en los que elabora obras de gran sutileza impregnadas de los elementos de la naturaleza, en completa armonía con los lugares en los que crea.

Andy Goldsworthy esculpe el hielo y la nieve, construye arcos de piedra, talla ramas, compone con hojas de roble o de arce, ordena flores de diente de león, o agrupa cantos rodados. Trabaja con los elementos el sol, la lluvia o el mar y aprovecha las estaciones del año para expresar su arte.

“Cada apilamiento es mucho más que la suma de sus elementos. Hay túmulos de luz, de color, de frío, de agua… y de piedras. He unido entre ellos el claro de luna, la puesta del sol, la marea ascendente y la gelatina firme.” Andy Goldsworthy

Goldsworthy es un compositor que reinterpreta la naturaleza, a merced de sus fantasías. Sus proyectos le llevaron a Estados Unidos, Australia, Japón, Francia o al Polo Norte. Pero su terreno preferido sigue siendo las Tierras Altas de Escocia, que es donde vive desde hace unos veinte años.

Jugando con el tocón de un plátano talado, pero del que brotarán algunas ramas rebeldes, el artista ha creado para Chaumont-sur-Loire un túmulo inédito donde las piedras y los vegetales se entrelazarán abrazándose, año tras año.

GRAN BRETAÑA

Andy Goldsworthy nació en 1956 en Cheshire, Gran Bretaña y pasó su infancia cerca de Leeds, en Yorkshire, donde comenzó a trabajar de joven en las granjas de los alrededores impregnándose del trabajo en el campo y del paisaje rural. Estudio en el Bradford Art College en 1974 y 1975 y en la Escuela Preston Polytechnic en Lancaster de 1975 a 1978 donde obtuvo su Bachelor of Arts.
Andy Goldsworthy fue nombrado Doctor Honoris Causa de Bradford University en 1993 y miembro Honorario de la University Of Central Lancashire en 1995.
Desde 1986, Andy Goldsworthy vive en Penpont en Dumfriesshire, Escocia. Ha instalado su taller en una antigua construcción de piedra y trabaja en numerosos países y parajes naturales.
