20. Pénombre

Pénombre, Rothko au jardin (Half-light, Rothko in the garden) is a deep red garden, “serious and emotional”, like a painting using dark colours, whose juxtaposed flowers and plants are at their best at dusk.

The contrast between the subtlety of the Japanese grasses and the succulent aeoniums from the Canaries, planted in the garden’s central island, creates a very specific black and crimson atmosphere, that is both austere and fascinating, playing with the light at all times of day.
