“Revolution is an idea which has found its bayonets.” Napoleon Bonaparte
After a year of global uprisings, the community of gnomes can no longer stand their suppression any more. Disturbed from their peaceful underground lives, marginalized by traditional horticultural society, stolen by misguided liberation organizations and laughed at by elitist gardeners; the uprising has begun.
The gnomes are rising in their unilateral quest for liberty, equality and brotherhood.
Their manifesto is simple:
- Gnomes each and all have an inherent beauty
- Gnomes fulfill a useful aesthetic role in horticultural society
- Gnomes have a right to peaceful underground residence
- Gnomes demand the end to their contemporary horticultural slavery
“Hasta la victoria siempre!”

Sim FLEMONS and John WARLAND, landscape architects
GREAT BRITAIN
From left to right: John Warland and Sim Flemons
Flemons / Warland aim to amuse, bewilder and ultimately produce works of beauty. Having studied design at Capel Manor, they work at the indefinable junction between landscape & art, using innovative materials and best horticultural practices to deliver quirky, and often thought provoking spaces.
Believing that their work can deliver messages and manifesto in addition to a pure aesthetic composition…the onlooker is challenged to engage with the space on a further level. Previous works include: The Fallen (2007), The Porsche Garden (2008), Concreation (2009), The World Vision Garden (2011)
Recipients of 4 Gold medals from the Royal Horticultural Society for their work.“The Fallen” was purchased for permanent exhibition by the RHS in 2007.
