2022 Art Season

For its 15th Art Season in 2022, the Chaumont-sur-Loire Centre for Arts and Nature will welcome around 15 different artists of varying ages and backgrounds.

A number of events are in store for the upcoming year, including a fantastic new creation by the great Miquel Barceló to be installed on the Historic Grounds and the inauguration of a new digital art gallery made possible by the Centre-Loire Valley Region’s renovation of the Château’s East wing. The new digital gallery will house a global creation by Quayola.

Three of Jaume Plensa’s monumental sculptures will greet visitors in the Farmyard, from which one can also access the Agnès Varda Courtyard Galleries to view a piece by Fabienne Verdier specially designed for the Domain. Five other artists will be present their poetic, nature-oriented, works in this part of the Domain: Stéphane Guiran in the Lower Le Fenil Gallery, German artist Evi Keller in the Bee Barn, and Christophe Marchalot, Félicia Fortuna and Lélia Demoisy in the Donkey Stables.

The Château itself will be the setting of a poetic dialogue between artwork and heritage. A large exhibition of poet-photographer Jean Le Gac’s works will be on display in the Upper Galleries, while Françoise Vergier’s charming ceramic and botanical goddesses carry on a conversation with the antique furniture and Carole Benzaken’s “landscape libraries” will take their place near the Princess de Broglie’s own library, which has recently been lit up by Pascal Convert’s crystallised creations. The Porcupine Gallery, the Office, and the King’s Tower will house Christiane Löhr’s delicate botanical miniatures.

The creations of Luxembourg-based Polish artist Katarzyna Kot-Bach will be on display in the Stables.

The collection will be completed with two works designed in situ by American artists Alison Stigora and John Grade installed on the Historic Grounds, and a sculpture by Bob Verschueren will arrive in the courtyard of the Domain’s future hotel “Le Bois de Chambres” in May.

Other than their connection to nature and the way each of these creations resonates with its space and beyond, the works featured during the 15th Art Season all share a sense of mystery, charm, depth, and poetry which, in the words of Philippe Jaccottet, “literally illuminates you’’.
